Unidentified miscreants on Sunday night, broke the right arm of the MGR statue, which was in a standing posture. On Monday morning, locals were shocked to see the damage caused to the statue. As news spread, AIADMK cadre gathered at the spot and blocked Pernamallur-Vazhapandal road demanding immediate arrest and action against those who damaged the statue.
On information about the road roko, Pernamallur police rushed to the spot and pacified the agitating party men. The police promised that those who damaged the statue would be arrested soon and stern action would be taken against the miscreants.
Though the party cadre initially refused to accept promise of the police, later they relented and dispersed from the spot.
Sources said that AIADMK men have planned to inform party top brass to ensure that the culprits were brought to book at the earliest.
