The meeting and rally are being organised to press various demands, including remunerative price for agricultural produce and waiver of farm loans.
Speaking to reporters at Tiruchy railway station, Ayyakannu said that the AIKSCC has planned to show the strength of farmers in the national capital and also to intensify their protests to highlight several long pending issues.
“Over 10 lakh farmers from 29 states are expected to participate in the protest and from Tamil Nadu at least 1,300 farmers will take part in both the events,” Ayyakannu said.
He also added that, the government has hiked the salary of MLAs, teachers, bank employees and other government staff, but no steps have been initiated to save the livelihood of farmers. “We also need a proportionate hike for the farm produce. During the election campaign, Modi promised to double the price of produce, but so far nothing has been done,” he stated.
