Nagai fishermen can venture into sea: Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan
Consolidating the relief efforts being carried out in Nagapattinam after the destruction caused by cyclone Gaja, Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan, in a release said that a grievance redressal meeting was held in a fishermen hamlet in the district on Friday.

During the meeting, it was informed that fishermen can venture into the sea from areas that were not affected or marginally hit.
According to the release, two municipalities, town panchayats, 151 villages having 193 panchayats with 980 habitations, including 88 coastal habitations, were affectedby the cyclone.
Nearly, 15 multi-departmental teams were working round-the-clock to restore normalcy in the district. Out of the 30,870 electricity poles that were uprooted or damaged, 21,724 have been restored. Out of 13,296 km of power lines, 10,935 km have already been rewired. All the affected villages were now being provided with potable water, the release added.
Nearly 293 feeding centres and 173 noon meal centres were providing food to 2 lakh rain-hit persons. Also, 1,854 medical camps have been held and 1.1 lakh persons benefitted from them. Besides these measures, 65 chlorination teams, 65 vector control teams, 50 fly breeding control teams, 60 mobile teams and 46 of the 108 ambulances have been deployed on the field. About 517 animal health camps have also been conducted and 78,691 animals were brought for screening.
