161 teachers issued memos for burning copies of GO

It may be recalled that teachers burnt copies of GO No 303, under which salaries on par with their central government counterparts was reduced, resulting in State government teachersdrawing less pay.

As the government did not heed their repeated pleas, teachers burnt copies of the GO in front of the Vellore Collector’s office.

Police arrested a total of 161 teachers and registered cases against them. Based on orders from Chennai, Vellore CEO S Mars ordered that the agitators be proceeded against. Hence, local DEOs issued charge memos to the 161 agitators whose names were taken from police records. They have been asked to reply within 15 days as to why further action should not be taken against them.
