Talking to reporters at the Coimbatore airport, he said, “No one will accept building of a new reservoir at Mekedatu.”

“Such a situation will not arise,” he said, when asked about the Central Water Commission (CWC) allowing Karnataka to go ahead with the preparation of a Detailed Project Report for the dam at Mekedatu.

The Centre’s move has triggered concern in Tamil Nadu with both the ruling AIADMK and the Opposition DMK and other parties slamming the CWC’s nod and demanded that it should be withdrawn.

Contending that no construction activities across river Cauvery should be taken up without the consent of the state, the Tamil Nadu government filed a review petition in the Supreme Court stating that Karnataka has violated the Cauvery Tribunal’s Final order.  The decision of CWC allowing the Karnataka Cauvery Neervari Nigam Limited to proceed with the preparation of a DPR for the Mekedatu project without considering the genuine objections of TN was wholly unjust, the plea said.
