Stating that the first batch includes 15 students, B Reddy, a senior coach at the Institute said, “CSS is a premier institute for sports medicine and sports sciences, and has been accredited by the Ministry of Sports, Government of India, under the ‘Khelo India’ programme for rowing, shooting and weight lifting.”
He said each of these students are eligible for a grant of Rs 6 lakh per year that will cover their boarding, lodging, education, training, coaching, kitting and equipment. “They will stay and train at the world class residential multi-sports academy at CSS,” he added.
These students will be trained to become champions and are expected to win laurels for the country in various sports. It may be noted that the ‘Khelo India’ scheme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at grass-root levels. It helps build a strong framework for all sports played in the country.
