Mysuru pup with injured spine finds foster home in US with help from Tamil Nadu
When Kambli was found as a severely injured stray puppy by the side of a road in Mysuru in February, people hardly expected him to survive his wounds. But fighting against all odds, the now adolescent dog has found a loving foster home on the other side of the globe, in Seattle, US, with little help from a relocation agency based in Chennai.

Recollecting the time when Kambli was discovered, Archana Sreenivasan, a resident of Bengaluru, said, “My niece found the puppy in Mysuru and kept him with her for over two months, during which period, the vets were unable to diagnose Kambli’s condition. It was only in Bengaluru that the vets eventually narrowed it down to a spinal injury.”
The puppy was put on physiotherapy and medication, but taking care of him became a challenge. “We hired a pet cab and brought the puppy to a foster home/rehabilitation centre in Bengaluru. We did a round of tests which confirmed that he had a spinal injury and we were told that he would never be able walk again. We realised that surgery was not an option, due to the lack of proper facilities here,” Archana added.
“A lot of people told us to euthanise him, but we obviously could not do it. Kambli is so full of life; he loves running around in his cart and socialising with other dogs. He loved his life and so we decided to fight for him,” said Archana.
After she brought the puppy to live with her, every minute with him has been learning experience, she said. “He was also suffering from a severe urinary infection so we could not neuter him until recently. Then he had a weak stomach and would constantly urinate and have bouts of loose motion. I learnt how to take care of him and help him through his panic attacks for which he had to be put on homeopathic medication,” Archana said.
But, since she could not keep the dog, Archana began to look for foster homes for Kambli, which also turned out to be the biggest challenge. Then eventually, a family in Seattle agreed to take him in. “I struggled hard to find the right pet relocation agency and eventually came across Chennai-based Global pet relocation services — a division of Global Cargo services Pvt Ltd. They helped me throughout the journey of sending him to Seattle last week,” said Archana.
Siva Balan, a member of the agency, said, “We ensured that Kambli could travel safely from Bengaluru to Seattle. After all this hardship, it was a delight to see him settling down at Seattle.”
