Now, Senthil Balaji, who has a strong Kongu backup, will be acting as a morale booster to the DMK in the region, especially in Karur district, as the party has only soft spoken leaders after the demise of Vasuki Murugesan, who controlled the entire district with her commanding attitude.
“Since Senthil Balaji is very young compared to the other DMK leaders in Karur and is from Kongu background, he would certainly strengthen the DMK, which has been striving to get a strong base in the region which always goes with the AIADMK,” said N Senthil Vel, a local political commentator.
A hardworking politician, Senthil Balaji was considered to be an efficient organiser. The first meeting he conducted at Coimbatore onOctober 8 at a ground near CODISSIA complex after the formation of the AMMK was considered to be the largest ever public rallies held in Coimbatore, he added.
The heavy turnout of workers raised many eyebrows in political circles as the western belt of the state was considered as the stronghold of the ruling AIADMK. More so, when the AIADMK had returned the largest chunk of legislators in the last Assembly polls ever since MGR’s reign.
Now, Senthil Balaji will certainly prove his strength in Karur where he considers his chief rivals- Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai and Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar not competent enough to counter him once he has the strongbacking of the DMK. “With him deciding to join the DMK, the AIADMK would get the toughest opponent in the political fight in the west,” Senthil Vel added.
