The deceased were identified as G Sarathy (31) from Balaya Garden in Madipakkam, and his wife Prasanthi (21). Sarathy worked as a sales manager in a private company.

Police said that Sarathy used to reside at a rented house along with his brother Manibalan and mother Lalitha. He was dejected over his mother’s death in November last year and therefore, Manibalan had arranged his brother’s wedding with Prasanthi in July this year.

Even after the marriage, Sarathy and his wife resided in the same house along with Manibalan. Recently, Manibalan had told Sarathy that he was unable to afford to share the rent for the big house, and therefore he had decided to shift to a smaller house in the same locality. He had also suggested Sarathy to shift to a new house.

A week back, Manibalan moved into his new house along with his family. Police said that Sarathy too had booked a house in the locality and had planned to shift on Wednesday. He was allegedly upset and been telling everyone that it was very hard to leave the house where he lived with his mother.

On Wednesday, when Sarathy did not answer his brother’s phone call, Manibalan visited their house ad peeped in through the house’s window to check on them. To his surprise, Manibalan found Sarathy hanging from the ceiling using his mother’s saree and his wife hanging near him.

On information, Madipakkam police rushed to the spot and found a suicide note written by Sarathy, where he had mentioned that nobody was the responsible for his and his wife’s death. Sarathy was reportedly sad for having to vacate the house where he lived with his mother. In the note, he had asked the police not to question his brother regarding their suicide.

In the note, Sarathy had apologised to Manibalan and asked him to live a happy life. He had asked him not to use his own money for his funeral and asked him to take his ATM card from the table. The note also contained the ATM pin.

Madipakkam police retrieved the bodies and sent them for post-mortem at Chromepet government hospital. A case has been registered and further inquiry is on.
