Even as the plea moved by ‘Sarkar’ director A R Murugadoss seeking to quash the FIR registered against him is set to be heard on Friday, the Madras High Court has directed the State not to arrest the director until December 20, when his plea seeking anticipatory bail is set to be taken up for further hearing.

Justice GK Ilanthirayan, before whom the anticipatory bail plea came up for hearing on Thursday, extended the stay on the arrest after time was sought from the government to enable State public prosecutor A Natarajan appear in the case.
Based on this, the Judge extended the interim order after directing the state not to arrest Murugadoss.
During the earlier hearing, while the State wanted Murugadoss to offer an unconditional apology and offer an undertaking that he wouldn’t criticise the government in his future films, the director categorically refused to either offer an apology or any undertaking as sought.
However, early this week, a FIR was filed against Murugadoss for instigating violence and burning the freebies offered by the government like grinders and mixers. Based on this, Murugadoss had moved another plea seeking to quash the FIR, which is set to be taken up on Friday.
He had contended that the FIR filed against him was against the fundamental right guaranteed under the Constitution and that a legal bar remained on any action against him as per the Cinematograph Act.
