Karti taunts Vasan on merger, don’t interfere, says TMC
It seems to be the season of political defections and reunions. After Dravidian parties, it was the turn of the state Congress to propose a reunion. Former union finance minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti has advised TMC to dissolve the party unit and return to Congress.

Posting a loaded message suggesting the arrival of more parties to the “winning alliance” of the DMK and the Congress, Karti taunted TMC members by tweeting, “There is no logic or raison d’etre for @TMC for TN to exist as a separate party. Dissolve and merge into @INCIndia.”
Karti has jabbed at his erstwhile colleagues a day after the DMK proposed Rahul Gandhi for Prime Minister’s post, endorsing the Congress leadership of the non-BJP front. Even leaders within the state Congress felt that Karti should have refined his language if his intention were truly to lure the breakaway faction and strengthen the Congress. “His choice of word suggests that he wanted to taunt and not unify. It was uncalled for, though the TMC was not doing well,” a Congress senior remarked.Understandably, Karti’s comment has only angered the TMC faction. “He is one of the 90 PCC members in TN. What is he without the suffix Chidambaram? What was his contribution to the TNCC? He does not deserve to talk about TMC or even AICC and TNCC? He is walking up and down court corridors. My leader Vasan was also a minister, he did not end up facing CBI cases. AICC and even his own father has been put to shame by him,” said TMC youth wing president M Yuvaraja.
“Moopanar gave an opportunity to his father to become a minister. Let him do some good to the Congress party before advising us. Does TNCC at least have the strength of our TMC youth wing? Vasan did not take 30 and odd people to New Delhi and merged the party with Congress like his father did. Vasan merged TMC with five lakh cadre. When TMC merged with Congress in 2001, the party did so with 23 MLAs. Congress was not in power. We merged the 3rd largest party in national interest. His father filed nomination in hand symbol even without merging the party. Let Karti focus on his case first,” Yuvaraja remarked.
