Addressing newspersons at Chennai Airport, Thirumavalavan said: “Each BJP leader has a different stand on an issue. They speak as they wish. They are the ones who support as well as oppose the same project.”

While Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said the dam will not be constructed without the consent of Tamil Nadu, his cabinet colleague Nirmala Sitharaman has voiced her support to the project.

When asked about the contrasting viewpoints, the VCK leader, who was on his way to Pudukkottai to pay respect to farmers who lost their lives in Keezhavenmani tragedy, said the BJP leaders speak differently on the Mekedatu issue.

“Forget Nirmala Sitharaman and Nitin Gadkari, even Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have a different opinion,” Thirumavalavan said.

When asked about Pon Radhakrishnan’s statement that the Congress-DMK alliance will be defeated in the upcoming Parliamentary elections, Thirumavalavan said that it is evident from his (Ponnar’s) comments that the alliance has turned out to be a threat to the BJP.
