Farmer trampled to death by elephant in Erode

A 59-year-old farmer was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Kadambur near Sathyamangalam in Erode district on Tuesday night.

According to the forest department, the victim, Madevappa, a resident of Anaikarai, had gone to sleep in the tapioca farm owned by his relative. The forest department staff said that, “A wild elephant which strayed into the forest had attacked the farmer. 

On hearing Madevappa screaming, people from neighbouring farms rushed to the spot and found him dead.” Later, the villagers chased away the elephant by firing crackers. 

On receiving information, the police and forest department officials arrived to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem to Sathyamangalam Government Hospital. The deceased farmer is survived by his wife, son and a daughter.
