The BJP-led Centre has been acting against the interests of federalism and is taking periodic steps to encroach into the state rights and subjects, he noted.
The Centre had started the process of restructuring Medical Council of India (MCI) and has introduced the National Medical Commission Bill which seeks to replace MCI. The NMC Bill is currently pending in Parliament and all the opposition parties should stay united and fight against this bill, which will reduce the state powers on the medical curriculum and admissions.
The NMC will determine fees in private medical colleges and deemed universities and will only benefit the private institutions. Already Tamil Nadu is hit by NEET and the public are yet to come out of the NEET impact. When this is the situation, the Centre’s next step to set up the medical commission will be a disaster for a developed state like Tamil Nadu. Such bills will rob away the rights of Tamil Nadu which is a pioneer in medical education.
Former chief minister J Jayalalithaa has opposed such anti-public bills and voiced against NEET, Dhinakaran said. So, the bill should not be passed, the statement added.
