Lashing out at Modi for describing the DMK-Congress alliance as “opportunistic,” Stalin, addressing a party meeting here late on Thursday night, said the Prime Minister was making such remarks as he had been “jolted” by the defeat of BJP in the recent assembly elections in three states repeating his “kangaroo court” barb.
“I am asking if the Prime Minister should hold a kangaroo court? Is this a task that should be done by the Indian Prime Minister, this is something that should be done by a political broker,” he said.
The DMK leader’s sharp attack comes days after he proposed Congress president Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate of the opposition alliance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections to defeat “fascist” Modi government. Referring to the Prime Minister’s criticism of the DMK-Congress alliance, Stalin claimed, “Modi is attacking the two parties in view of the political turnaround at the national level which he (Modi) had not expected.”
He said the recent results of assembly polls in five states demonstrated that Modi-led BJP regime at the Centre would be dislodged and a similar fate awaited the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu.
On Friday, he appealed to the DMK cadre to get the confidence of the people for the change of government both at the state and the Centre. “Our main aim is for the change in the rule. This is also our people’s wish,” he said. Appealing to the cadre for organising periodical meetings from January 8 to February 17 across the state, the DMK leader told the party functionaries to explain about the functioning of the “anti-people government.”
Stalin, urging the cadre to visit the nook and corner of the state, said, all the issues such as Mekedatu, Sterlite row, NEET exams and the way the government handled Cyclone Gaja relief should be highlighted among the voters.
DMK complains to CoP over fakeTwitter account in Stalin’s name
The DMK on Friday lodged a police complaint seeking action against those behind a fake Twitter account in the name of its chief MK Stalin and for posting objectionable comments aimed at defaming him among the Hindus. The fake account, similar to the genuine handle of Stalin, is propagating malicious content to bring disrepute and defame him among Hindus, the party said in its complaint. The party’s organising secretary RS Bharathi, in the complaint to the city Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan, provided screen-shots of the objectionable content to support the claim. The screen-shots - like the one which maliciously claimed that temple worshippers need not vote for DMK- were aimed at bringing a sense of disaffection against his party chief among Hindus, Bharathi said in the complaint seeking appropriatelegal action.
