Nine-day Coimbatore Vizha to feature fun, food, technology and cultural festivities

The eleventh edition of ‘Coimbatore Vizha’ kick-started on Friday (January 4) and will end on January 12, with a line-up of exciting events in arts, culture, entertainment, technology and much more for the whole of next week.

As part of the Vizha, the public can take a joy ride in a Double Takkar bus, which would go around the city from VOC Park every day from 8 am to 10 pm. There will be two buses making alternative trips.

For those with an appetite for tasty cuisines, the Vizha offers ‘Eat Street’, a street food festival in Codissia. As celebrations never get fulfilled without food, there are a range of cuisines served on the platter to surprise you from Friday to Sunday (January 4 to 6).

For the innovative minds, there will be a ‘Science and Technology fest’ which will display innovations of school and college students at the Codissia Trade Fair Complex on January 6 and 7.

A cultural show titled ‘Coimbatore Parade’ involving about 33 cultural organisations on Sunday evening at Race Course is like-ly to be a showstopper. At the show, the culture of different ethnic communities living in the city will be showcased in a grand manner. On January 12 and 13, artists from across the country will put up their works at ‘Oviya Sandhai’ in Race Course.

For the night owls, an outdoor movie night is organised at the amphitheatre at Codissia from January 9 to 12. Movies in English, Tamil and Hindi will be screened in the theatre.

There will also be an openquiz program at Suguna Auditorium on January 12 and a heritage car show on the same day in Prozone Mall.

Inaugurating the Vizha at VOC Park Grounds on Friday, City Po-lice Commissioner Sumit Saran and Corporation Commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan said that the event will be a feather in the cap of Coimbatore known for its rich culture and tradition.
