Fisherman stranded in sea rescued by ICG

A fisherman Devarajan (41) of Tharuvaikulam, Thoothukudi district, who was feared lost due to accidental fall into the sea was rescued by Indian Coast Guard Ship Vaibhav on Wednesday.

The ship while patrolling in Gulf of Mannar received a wireless call for help regarding, a man overboard from the fishing boat, which was about 60 km Southeast of Pamban lighthouse during the wee hours at about 3.30 am on Wednesday.

The ship immediately shaped course for the position and reached by 5.30 am and commenced calculated search, so as to locate the fisherman at the earliest, sources added.

The ICG Ship located the fisherman in distress and rescued him at about 7.30 am.

He was left stranded at mid sea for nearly eight and half hours. He was immediately administered by medical team onboard Vaibhav and his condition is said to be stable.

Further, the Coast Guard Ship proceeded towards Tharuvaikkulam and handed over the rescued fisherman to Fisheries officials, sources added.
