Kanimozhi revives anti-Hindi debate

“I am an Indian, I do NOT speak Hindi,” she posted ‘responding’ to the issue of a Tamil speaking PhD scholar allegedly ‘denied’ entry at Mumbai airport despite holding Indian passport for not knowing Hindi.

“Was just denied immigration by an immigration officer in counter 33 at Mumbai CST AIRPORT, for knowing only Tamil and English and NOT hindi! What a disaster! Reported the officer, hope they take action. @SushmaSwaraj@mkstalin@narendramodi,” Abraham Samuel tweeted. Responding to a media report on the issue, Kanimozhi declared her nationality and reiterated her lack of knowledge of Hindi.

Only on Wednesday, she arrested the attention in the Upper House of the Parliament by saying, “Speak in a language I know.” She had responded to the chair addressing the chair in Hindi while reminding her about consuming extra time.

Earlier in the day, she had expressed concern over the Centre reportedly attempting to impose Hindi in schools.

“There are media reports that say the Kasturirangan report on New Education Policy says that Hindi language has to be made compulsory in schools across the country,” she tweeted.

She also clarified, “The HRD Minister Mr. @PrakashJavdekar has denied it in a tweet. I request the ministry to place the report in public domain and put such doubts to rest.”  Thrice in a day, the women’s wing chief of the DMK, which has an illustrious history of successfully fighting Hindi imposition, had launched an offensive against the ruling BJP on the language issue.
