“The AMMK isn’t going for an alliance with either the Congress or the BJP and Communists as these parties weren’t concerned about the welfare of Tamil Nadu. The Congress in Karnataka and Communists in Kerala won’t deliver justice in Cauvery and Mullaiperiyar issues,” he said, while addressing a protest meeting in Dharmapuri on Thursday.
The AMMK leader’s change of stance comes after the Congress shut its doors by inking an alliance with its long time ally the DMK. Recently, Dhinakaran made an open call for alliance with Congress, if it drops out of the DMK alliance.
Dhinakaran, however, said that some state parties are in talks with the AMMK. “If everything turns out well in seat sharing, then AMMK will contest in an alliance. Otherwise the party will face both the bypolls and parliamentary elections alone and prove our strength as desired by the people,” he said.
Exuding confidence that people will support the AMMK in both the bypolls for 20 constituencies and in the parliamentary elections, the AMMK leader said, “Our party MPs will then decide who should become the Prime Minister. And all schemes opposed by former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, now being implemented in the state, will be stopped.”
On DMK’s gram sabha meetings, Dhinakaran said the meetings should have been convened when Stalin was holding the Local Administration portfolio.
On Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar’s remarks that both the DMK and the AMMK are in a secret alliance, Dhinakaran countered that only the DMK and the AIADMK share a partnership in corruption, as it was evident during co-operative polls. He also mocked the Dravidian majors for stopping by-elections in Tiruvarur fearing a defeat at the hands of AMMK. “Both the parties knew that they will lose deposit if they contest,” he said.
