Fisherman hurt in Lankan Navy attack

In yet another incident, around 100 fishermen from Rameswaram, who were fishing in the sea, were attacked by Sri Lankan Navy personnel on Sunday, resulting in injury to one of them.

According to reports, the fishermen were fishing in around in 25 mechanised boards near Katchatheevu, when they were attacked by the Lankan Navy for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line.

One fisherman, Riyan, sustained injuries in the attack and was hospitalised. Following the attack, they returned to the shore. Expressing concern over the continuing attacks and arrests, the fishermen wanted the state and the central governments to take steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
