Black gram procurement commences
The district administration has called on farmers to use black gram procurement announced by the Centre’s National Cooperative Agricultural Federation (NAFED), officials said on Tuesday.

The officials have called on farmers cultivating black gram in and around Kil Pennathur, Vandavasi, Naidumangalam, Pudupalayam and Chetpet to utilise the black gram procurement policy.
Black gram would beprocured at the announced minimum support price of Rs 56 per kilo. Farmers interested in the scheme should approach the market committee nearest to the above five locations and register giving copies oftheir Aadhaar card, first page of the bank pass book, chitta and adangal records in addition to production certificate signed by the AAO (assistant agricultural officer) or DAO (deputy agricultural officer).
Registered farmers would be informed over phone as to when they should bring their produce to the market committee, officials said. The product would be procured through the central government’s NAFED, officials noted.
