Addressing reporters, he said the storage level in dams, including Papanasam, Servalar and Manimuthar, is adequate. “Hence, people of Thoothukudi and those in the neighbouring districts of Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar will get the required amount of drinking water till the end of June,” the Collector said.
Orders have been issued to execute development works by utilising the rural development funds in some identified areas. The works include digging new borewells, deepening of existing borewells, extension of pipelines and construction of overhead tanks and reservoirs. “While minor works would be completed in two-three weeks’ time, construction of overhead tanks would take a month’s time,” Nanduri said.
