Indian Gaur dies in road mishap near Kavalkaranpatti

A young Indian Gaur was hit by a speeding vehicles near Kavalkaranpatti village on Wednesday. But, failing to respond to the treatment, it died.

According to sources, on Wednesday, while a herd of Indian Gaur were coming out of the forest area near Kakkireddypatti village and attempted to cross the national highway. An unknown speeding vehicle rammed on a calf, sustaining severe fracture injuries during the collision. The calf fell unconscious, later, the onlookers informed the forest department officials about the incident. Based on the information a special team rushed to the spot and started treatment, it was found that the calf sustained back bone fracture and also some internal injuries. Despite treatment, the calf died.   


A local resident said that they have seen the herd of 10 - 15 Indian Gaurs often coming out of the forest area seeking food and water in the nearby villages. They alleged that more than eight gaurs have died over the year in road mishap.


He alleged that the negligence showed by the forest department over the issue being the reason for the continuing accidents occurring in the locality. According to D Sujatha, district forest officer, Tiruchy, “The calf was nearly 4-years-old and had sustained fracture injuries in its back. Though treated the calf died.”
