Man gets 35-yr jail term for murder

The Vellore additional sessions court on Wednesday awarded 35-year jail term for a 24-year-old convict in farmer murder case dating back to May 2015.

According to the prosecution, Babu alias Gnansekaran (24) and 3 of his associates, all juveniles, bludgeoned Saravanan, a farmer of Kathazhampattu village near Vellore on May 29, 2015, to death with a boulder. The four-member gang murdered the farmer while he was asleep in his house.

The gang later escaped with 25 sovereigns of gold jewelry and Rs1 lakh in cash.

After detailed investigation, all the four were arrested by the Vellore taluk police.

Once the case was presented before the additional sessions court, judge Gunasekaran sentenced Babu to a total of 35 years of jail term, which included two life sentences.

While one life sentence and Rs.3000 fine was slapped for slaying Saravanan, the second life term and fine of Rs 2000 was awarded for the murder conspiracy.

Further, the judge ordered that out of 35 years, Babu must compulsorily serve 20 years in jail to become eligible for parole and if Babu fails to pay the total fine of Rs.5000, he should undergo another two years of RI.

The judge in his order also made it clear that Babu should not be provided with any special facilities in prison.
