Panneerselvam may present a farmer-friendly budget
Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who is also the state Finance Minister, will submit the state budget for the year 2018-19, on Friday.

The Assembly session will continue from the first session of year, which commenced on January 2 and went on till January 8. On the first day of the session, budget will be presented by Panneerselvam and after the budget presentation, the session will be on leave for two days.
When the session commences again on Monday, debate will be held on the state budget. The debate will continue till the end of the week. According to sources in the Secretariat, there will be a function on Saturday, the day on which Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami completes two years in office.
The budget, which is usually presented in March, was advanced this year due to Parliamentary elections. “In 2018, the state budget was presented by Panneerselvam, on March 15, but this year as the Union government submitted the interim budget well ahead of the usual schedule, the state government too had advanced the budget as there will be problem in getting funds once the election dates are announced and model code of conduct comes into force”, said sources.
State Ministers said that the budget will contain new announcements and fresh schemes for various sectors. According to state Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar special schemes can be expected for the welfare of farmers in the budget. “The state government is working for the welfare of the people and lot of welfare schemes can be expected for various sectors,” he said.
