The move by the School Education Department came after Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) requested authorities to implement the novel scheme in schools on a weekly basis for the effective implementation of the ban and create awareness among the students. A senior official from the School Education Department told DTNext on Thursday that following the request from the TNPCB, the Department will encourage collection of banned use and throwaway plastics from their houses and surrounding environment. "Instructions will also be given to schools, especially high and higher secondary, to collect banned plastics through the members of National Green Cops (NGC) and National Social Service (NSS), Scouts and students," he added.
