According to his son, Kar Muhil, Mugilan boarded a train to Madurai at 11.50 pm, on Friday, but did not reach Madurai. “Father’s mobile was active till 2 pm, but after that it got switched off. Since then there was no contact with him,” told Kar Muhil to DT Next.
Mugilan organised a press meet against Sterlite copper at Chennai Press Club on Friday and in the press meet he released a video claimingthat protesters did not torch the vehicles and buildingson May 22, the day of anti-Sterlite protesters killings and they were torchedby miscreants, suspectedto be the men fromSterlite copper.
The press meet created various controversies and after the press meet, he had a meeting with other activists before boarding the train. Mugilan neither reached Madurai nor returned to Chennai but went missing.
After waiting for a day and repeated calls, Kar Muhil filed an online complaint and is planning for a legal move. “We have informed all the higher officials in police department and will file a habeas corpus petition in the Madras High Court,” said Kar Muhil.
Meanwhile, activists raised the question about missing Mugilan and demanded the government to trace him. Gunaseelan, activist and one of close associates of Mugilan, said that there is a strong suspicion on police department that he might have been kidnapped by them and he might be tortured for exposing the case of Sterlite copper.
There is also a rumourthat Police might produce him in a court in either Erode or Tirupur districts onMonday, but no official information was given tohis family members, said Gunaseelan.
