TN board exam centres to be under CCTV watch

In a first, the State government will have board examination centres under surveillance to prevent malpractices.

Besides installing CCTV cameras, the Directorate of Examinations, which is responsible for organising Class 10, 11 and 12 board exams, also initiated several other steps, including increasing the number of flying squad members. A senior official from the Directorate told DT Next that the cameras will be installed in a few districts, to be selected shortly. “Sensitive exam centres will be identified and cameras will be installed,” he said, adding that exam activities will be thoroughly monitored at respective district headquarters. 

“From next year onwards, CCTVs will be installed in all examination centres,” the noted. Talking about the 3,000 examination centres that the Tamil Nadu government had set up last year, he said, “For the benefit of students, an additional 100 centres will be established this year.”

According to the official, an additional 500 members will be included in the flying squad this year. “In addition, more examination control rooms will be established as per requirement,” he said, adding additional student’s counselling centres will also come up. 

He said more than 45,000 teachers will be involved in the board examinations, which will be held from March 1 for Class 11 students. This year, those from the class who followed the new syllabus, will be the first batch to appear for the exams. 

Stating that there were reports about the question paper leak last year, the official said that, keeping it in mind, this year, extra security will be deployed in areas where question papers were kept. “All other activities, including maintaining answer sheets of the students, evaluation and publishing results will be enhanced,” he said, adding, teachers from private schools will not be allowed in the examination centres.
