The party, which was launched on February 21 last year, is celebrating its first anniversary. Kamal is scheduled to hoist the party flag at the head office in Chennai.

“Later in the day, he will travel to Vellapallam in Nagapattinam district and distribute fishing nets to the fishermen of the fishing village. Following that, around 6.30 pm, he will take part in the Tiruvarur public meeting,” a party statement said.

Even though the public meeting has been organised to mark the party’s launch anniversary, the turnout at the meeting is likely to ascertain the party’s reach among the masses.

With Kamal already stating that his party would contest all the Lok Sabha seats in the State, the meeting is expected to boost the morale of his supporters ahead of the polls.

Meanwhile, the selection of the venue for the meeting has resulted in speculations that Kamal might contest from one of the Lok Sabha constituencies in the delta region. Significantly, he refused to deny the possibility of contesting the Lok Sabha hustings during a recent interview.

However, Dr R Mahendran, MNM Vice-President, ruled out the speculation and said the venue was selected because the party did not hold any meeting in Tiruvarur. “Where and when the President contests the elections is a separate matter and has nothing to do with the meeting,” he added.
