Tamil Nadu signs pact with British Council
Tamil Nadu government and British Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen educational and cultural cooperation.

The MoU aims to create opportunities for the youth in the State by improving access to English language learning, quality education, and internationally benchmarked assessments, skills and qualifications, said a statement.
The British Council and State government have agreed to develop initiatives to improve skills and English language teaching and learning in government higher education and school system across the State. During the event, Higher Education department secretary Mangat Ram the government was focused on building state infrastructure and education of the youth.
“Through this MoU, we are planning to expand the scope of our engagements in developing skills and employability of our students; to build capacity and provide faculty with 21st century skills and enhance our cooperation in the cultural field with the people of the UK,” the statement quoted him as saying.
The agreement seeks to develop skills of faculty and teachers from government universities and industrial training institutes across Tamil Nadu, expand the existing collaboration through initiatives like the Indo-British Fund, UK-India Education Research Initiative (UKIERI) and the Newton Bhabha programme. The British Council and government will build initiatives to improve English and employability skills of ITI, engineering and management students in the State, and also provide access to internationally benchmarked assessments.
British Council has offered scholarships to 22 women from Tamil Nadu to pursue higher studies in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. Recently, these scholars were facilitated by British Prime Minister Theresa May in London for their achievement.
