Vaiko, in a statement, said, “Conducting public exams for young students is a huge burden on them and imposing such a huge burden on their early years is a huge crime.”

Central government recently brought the changes in the school education system by conducting public exams for Classes 5 and 8 across the country but as there was stiff opposition from the state governments the Centre made the exams optional. Vaiko said that education depends on several factors and students alone cannot be blamed. “Learning for children depends on their family situation and the atmosphere in schools. If students in private schools perform better it is due to better teaching and the atmosphere prevailing in the schools and not due to the performance of the students alone,” said Vaiko.

He also said that initially the state government had decided not to conduct the public exams but recently came to know that state is trying to alter its longstanding policy of not conducting exams till Class 8 by conducting public examsfor Classes 5 and 8 on the compulsion of the Union government.
