It is said Vasuki (40) has been running a small shop at Tirumayam Bhairavar temple and selling puja articles, including coconut for offering by the devotees and has been taking the broken coconuts from HR andCE departmenton lease.
In this back drop, this year, Sivaraman (47) elder brother of DMK Tirumayam union secretary Saravanan had established a shop adjacent to that of Vasuki. Since Vasuki has been running the shop for a long, the devotees used to buy articles from her and so the business for Sivaranam was not so encouraging and this has infuriated Saravanan and a few DMK cadre who have been insisting Vasuki to vacate the shop fromthe particular spot and they had also warned her of dire consequences.
On Tuesday, around 4 pm, a group of DMK men led by Saravanan came to Vasuki’s shop and asked her to vacate it. Since Vasuki refused to do so, the DMK cadre grabbed the articles from the shop and threw them away. On seeing this, Vasuki’s younger sister Gowri (37) and two of her relatives tried to prevent them. However, the DMK cadre including Saravanan and his brother Sivaraman assaulted all the four women and threw away the articles again on the roads and left the spot warning them.
Later, neighbours rushed the injured women to the Pudukkottai Medical College. Meanwhile, the attack which was videographed by a neighbour has been going viral on social media across the region.
