CCTV surveillance, invigilators from different schools to curb malpractices during boards

Taking steps to eliminate malpractices during board exams, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to not allow invigilators for classes 10, 11 and 12 board exams from the same school.

In addition, steps will be taken to install CCTV cameras at the exam centres and non-teaching staff will not be allowed inside during the examination.


The Directorate of Government Examinations has already appointed educational officers for each task regarding the exams which will be held from March 2019.


A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next that the list of teachers who will be deployed for invigilation has already been prepared by the authorities concerned. “The teachers will be sent for invigilation to other schools according to the list,” he added.


Claiming that there were reports of a few private school teachers helping students during examinations for better results last year, the official said, “Even non-teaching staff, including sweepers and cleaners, should complete their routine works one hour before the examination starts.”


“In addition, additional security personnel will be deployed at the examination centres to monitor the activities of the school management,” he said, adding that mobiles phone are prohibited for the invigilators, too, inside the examination hall.


A team led by District Education Officer hasbeen formed in eachregion to monitor the examination activities.


“They would continue to visit all examination centres in their respective regions and submit a periodical report to the authorities in the Chennai headquarters,” he pointed out.


He said a secured system to transport answer script bundles through a special vehicle from the examination centres and to handover them at the collection points will be adopted.


The official also pointed out that 27,31,217 students had appeared for both Secondary School Leaving Certificates (SSLC) and Higher Secondary Board Examinations (first and second-year) last academic year.
