When a petition filed by P Suganthi, TN general secretary of AIDWA came up for hearing before a division bench of Justices N Kirubakaran and SS Sundar, the bench expressed its dissatisfaction over the probe conducted by the Crime Branch –Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) into the case.
The petitioner, who sought CBI inquiry, also stated that the inquiry conducted by the CB-CID was not fair and they had framed the final charge sheet, which was submitted to Srivilliputhur court. Moreover, the petitioner claimed that several MKU officials were involved in the case, but their names were not specified in the charge sheet and neither were they interrogated.
Based on this, the petitioner requested the court to transfer the case to the CBI adding, until then, the bench should order interim stay on proceedings.
Nirmala Devi, former assistant professor of a private college in Aruppukottai, was arrested by Aruppukottai Town police on charges of allegedly luring female students to extend favours to top officials of Madurai Kamaraj University. The case has been adjourned to March 18.
While Murugan and Karuppasamy, the other accused in the case, have been granted bail by the SC, Nirmala Devi’s bail application has been rejected multiple times by the court.
