Leaders make a beeline to Wing Commander house

Jayakumar visited the house of Abhinandan, who is under the custody of Pakistan, in Madambakkam near Tambaram and expressed confidence to his parents that he would be released and the Indian government is taking all steps for his release. He demanded the neighbouring country to stick to the Geneva Convention of 1949.

After meeting the parents of the pilot, while addressing reporters, Jayakumar said, “Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War demands humane treatment of prisoners and release of them. I sincerely hope that Pakistan will follow the convention and will release Abhinandan.”

He also said that the counter attack by Indian Air Force (IAF) is appreciable and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union government for taking stern measures to counter terrorism.

DMDK Treasurer PremalathaVijayakant also met the parents of Abhinandan and gave confidence to them. After meeting them, Premalatha, said that she felt proud in visiting the house of Abhinandan as his family is into IAF for three generations.

She also said that when it comes to national interests there is no compromise and the reply should be strong. Premalatha too appreciated Modi for expressing strong leadership qualities in retaliating for the Pulwama attack.

Meanwhile, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan demanded the Centre to take action to stop the tension mounting at the borders. He also urged the government to avert any further attacks.

Thirumavalavan said, “War on terrorists and surgical strikes should not become war between two countries and it is not good for the world peace.”

He also quoted the Geneva Convention and demanded the Pakistan government to hand over Abhinandan.
