NGO reunites lost man with family after two years

A mentally-challenged man, who was found wandering in Vaniyambadi Railway Station two years ago, was cured and handed over to his relative in Tiriupatthur on Monday.

The youth, identified as Tarakeswar Rao, is in his early 30s and was admitted to a private hospital in Vellore by the Vaniyambadi police after locals informed the cops about him two years ago.


After the first session of treatment, the hospital handed over the Tarakeswar to a NGO called Udavum Ullangal, based in Tirupatthur. While in the hospital, he was given psychiatric treatment and counselling which helped him recover and identify himself. Tarakeswar shared his details with the NGO president C Ramesh and said that he was from Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh.


The president then contacted Srikakulam police and informed them about Tarakeswar Rao. After investigations, the cops discovered that he was the son of Srikakulam councilor Rama Rao. Sources said that Tarakeswar was mentally challenged since the last ten years and was admitted to a hospital for treatment in Vishakapattinam two years ago. The Srikakulam police informed Tarakeswar’s family and the latter’s sisters Shiny and Krishnaveni arrived in Tirupatthur. Tarakeswar Rao was handed over to his sisters by the NGO in the presence of Tirupatthur sub collector Priyanka. The trio then left for their native.


Speaking to DT Next, Ramesh said that till date the NGO has helped over 160mentally challenged persons from various states, including Goa, Maharashtra,Gujarat and Bihar.
