Officials said that Akalya, a resident of the Kambikollai area of the town currently studying class IX in a private school, earlier studied in Municipal Middle School in Bethlehem, Ambur untilclass VIII.

While in the school, her teachers reportedly helped her study better. As a sign of gratitude Akalya decided to help the school provide better education to the children and with the money she had saved for many years, she gifted a smart board to the school. The board costed Rs 50,000.

Speaking about her donation, Akalya said she wanted to ensure that students from the weaker sections of society, who often studied in the municipal schools, should be exposed to higher standards of education. “Hence I decided to donate the smart board. This way, they would also be benefitted and be on par with students from better off schools.” School head J Sathyakumar and other teachers were present when the board was unveiled. Residents praised Akalya’s gesture.
