Sources said that AP police posted at the Naraharipet checkpost were in a state of high-alert after they received an information that a car carrying red sanders logs was on its way to Chennai via Vellore.
Upon spotting a car which approached the checkpost at high speed, the cops signalled its driver to stop. However, he sped away without obeying the order.
The cops immediately started chasing the speeding car, which entered TN on the Chittoor highway. The car was forced to halt in Christianpet village after one of its tyres burst. As the TN police were alerted by their AP counterparts, they approached the car and secured the driver.
Police checked the vehicle and found Rs 10 lakh cash inside. When questioned, the driver was unable to explain the source for the cash.
The TN police handed over the car, driver and the seized cash to AP police who reached Christianpet soon after. It is suspected that the money was meant for red sanders smuggling.
