Act against red sanders mafia: Women

Sources said that the area which has more than 300 houses was not supplied drinking water for more than three months. Repeated requests to officials to do the needful failed to elicit any response.

Irked by the total lack of official action, women with pots blocked the road near their village resulting in Vazhapandal police rushing to the spot and trying to talk to the agitators to lift the blockade.

Police were embarrassed when the women bluntly stated that the reason for the water problem was the illegal sand smuggling indulged in by ruling party men in the nearby Kamandala Naganadhi due to which water levels in the bores sunk by the government started dwindling rapidly.

Police then assured the defiant women that they would do the needful to stop sand smuggling and that local body officials would be asked to supply them water immediately following which the blockade was lifted and traffic resumed.
