Drunk father, sons attack auto driver for refusing ride

A family of four Nepali men has been arrested for attacking an autorickshaw driver in Anna Square police station limits on Wednesday.

V Anandan (25) of Tondiarpet, the autorickshaw driver, was waiting near Kannagi statue on Kamarajar Salai for passengers around 5.30 pm when a four-member gang approached him to go for a ride. When Anandan refused to entertain their request as they were drunk, the gang allegedly punched him in his face and tried to flee.


Hearing his cries, passers-by secured the four men and handed them over to the Anna Square police. Based on Anandan’s complaint, the police arrested the gang.


They were identified as Bhim Bahadur (55) of Nepal and his sons — Robin (27), Navin (23) and Ravilimbu (23). All four were remanded in judicial custody.


In a similar incident, the Marina police arrested M Geethan (22) for allegedly attacking an autorickshaw driver after the latter refused to oblige his requestfor a ride.


In the scuffle, the auto driver, A Salim (24) of Triplicane, lost four teeth and was admitted at Government Royapettah Hospital. The police said that the accused, Geethan, was under the influenceof alcohol.
