Newborn boy found dumped in garbage pile

A large number of crows were circling the spot which alerted passers-by. They tried to inspect the pile to find the baby lying in the trash with its umbilical cord intact.

They immediately informed the Kalavai police and the dispensary doctor who took the baby inside, bathed it and cut its cord.

This is a rare instance in the district of an infant boy being abandoned as it is usually the girls who are dumped into garbage bins by parents who feel they cannot afford to raise them. Even the district officials were surprised to find that a boy was abandoned.

Such abandoned babies, once discovered, are handed over to the state cradle baby scheme which looks after their welfare.
