When the first bench comprising the chief justice and Justice M Duraiswamy commenced their sitting for the day, advocate R Y George William on citing severe lapse in the security by the Tamil Nadu police sought the deployment of CISF to all the other courts within the High Court campus as well as the lower courts.
He also produced a rough sketch of the family court with its entrances and exit and sought for the posting of at least 75 police personnel at the family court premises to ensure the safety of women.
He also submitted that the police personnel posted should be meant exclusively for deployment in family courts and not shunted for other security work.
However, the bench on acknowledging the advocate's concern directed him to hand over the rough sketch prepared by him to the High Court Registrar Generalfor action.
It may be noted that there are as many as eight family courts within the high court campus of which five courts alone have judges. The pendency is being put at over 15,000 cases.
As per the shocker that transpired on Tuesday, Saravanan, an MTC bus driver, who has been trying to obtain a divorce from his estranged wife Varalakshmi for the past 10 years was agitated over her moving a maintenance plea. Based on this, he pre-planned the attack on his wife and entered the court with a knife and stabbed her.
It is said that Saravanan had somehow managed to get away from being frisked by the police at the entrance.
