cVigil app, a first-of-its-kind app introduced by the EC, is now helping the officials to trace forwards based on geographic position. “The videos and photos forwarded or sent from a point are now being traced using longitude and latitude position,” CEO Satyabrata Sahoo said.

cVigil provides time-stamped evidentiary proof of model code of conduct related violations and through this, the public can share expenditure violation live using auto location data. This unique combination of timestamping, live photo with auto location can be fairly relied upon by the election machinery to navigate to the right spot and take prompt action, the CEO explained. The GIS-based dashboard provides a strong decision tool to drop and dispose of frivolous and unrelated cases even before they are acted upon, thereby reducing the workload of election machinery on ghost complaints, Sahoo said.

Till date, more than 470 complaints have been received and most complaints are under investigation by the assistant returning officers and returning officers. Another app, Samadhan, dedicated for officers is also doing well and the public will soon get view options for the app.
