DMK president M K Stalin on Saturday said his first task after coming to power would be to punish those responsible for former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s death.
Addressing an election meeting in Tiruvannamalai, Stalin said, “A thorough probe would be conducted to ascertain the reasons for her death. Those responsible or connected to the case in any way would be jailed.” He also questioned the Election Commission of India (ECI) for accepting the fingerprint, which was claimed to be that of Jayalalithaa, on the affidavit filed by the late AIADMK leader A K Bose during the Tiruparankundram bypoll contest. “The court has expressed doubts over it and declared Bose’s win as invalid. Hence, there are doubts as to whether Jayalalithaa was even alive that time,” he said.
Stating that the late DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi never differentiated between Tiruvarur and Tiruvannamalai, Stalin said both were the party’s fortresses, adding that the latter place laid the base for the DMK to form the government in 1967.
Claiming that the party created history by entering Parliament in 1957 when its candidate E R Dharmalingam won the Tiruvannamalai seat, he called on voters to ensure victory for the candidates of the secular front in all 40 MP seats in TN and Puducherry.
Referring to the AIADMK candidate Agri Krishnamoorthy, he said the latter was removed from his ministerial post and jailed by Jayalalithaa following the death of agriculture officer Muthu Kumurasamy.
He recalled that PMK leader S Ramadoss, who has now allied his party with the AIADMK, was the person who demanded Krishnamoorthy’s incarceration. Stalin also urged the people to ensure that Krishnamoorthy did not get even a single vote, as electing him would bring shame to the locals.
