Theni people will teach OPS a lesson: Tamilselvan

Senior AMMK leader and Theni Lok Sabha constituency candidate Thanga Tamilselvan on Sunday said the local electorate would teach a fitting lesson to Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and his son Ravindranath Kumar, who is the AIADMK’s candidate for the seat.

Addressing newspersons here, Tamilselvan claimed that Panneerselvam and his family ruled Theni as a monarchy. “The Deputy CM and his family members have started distributing money to people ahead of polls,” he said, adding that his party would trust the Election Commission to take steps to prevent distribution of money to voters and ensure fair polls.

In a reference to political heirs being given tickets in both the AIADMK and the DMK, Tamilselvan said the AMMK was an exception as it provided equal opportunity for its cadre.

“Despite not having a symbol, the AMMK is facing the elections. This shows the party’s growth,” he said.

Stating that the people of TN were looking forward to a new leadership, he said, “They (people) expect TTV Dhinakaran to provide better governance, as an alternative to the existing Dravidian parties.”

He claimed that the loyal supporters of the AIADMK were with the AMMK and would not vote for the AIADMK-led alliance.

“Major facilities, including a Government Medical College Hospital, were established in Theni due to the efforts of Dhinakaran,” Tamilselvan said. “The AMMK deputy general secretary knows the requirements of the people.”

“There remains a long-pending demand to establish a Public Works Department (PWD) office in Theni. If elected, the office would be set up.”
