The April 18 polls will be the first election to be faced by the actor-politician after launching his party in February last year.

On Thursday, Haasan will launch his campaign from Semmancherry at 4 pm and would campaign at 12 more places on the same day for his party’s South Chennai candidate R Rangarajan ex-IAS. He will then campaign in the Central Chennai and the North Chennai constituencies for candidates Kameela Nasser and AG Mourya, retired IPS officer.

The actor-politician will campaign across the state for the candidates for both the Lok Sabha and the bypolls till April 16. On the last two days of the campaign, the actor will campaign once again in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Chennai.

After announcing his decision not to enter the fray in the upcoming Ls polls and the assembly bypolls, Haasan will find his task cut out to introduce the candidates who are contesting the polls for the first time. He justified his decision saying that it was aimed travelling across the state to canvass votes for his candidates. An executive committee member of the MNM said that Haasan wanted to contest the polls but the party office bearers advised against it citing the need to campaign for all the candidates.

“Moreover, we wanted to provide alternative to the Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu. Our focus is on the state politics rather than on national level,” he said.
