6 lakh teachers to get skill development training
In a bid to develop teaching methods ahead of the next academic year, the Tamil Nadu government is planning to take up a massive exercise to give skill development training to more than six lakh government school teachers.

The Tamil Nadu State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in collaboration with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) will organise training sessions for teachers of primary and upper primary levels. For this, competent experts, faculty members of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) and teachers have been identified and activity-based modules were developed.
A senior official from SCERT said that apart from basic level training programmes at the primary level, about 66,000 teachers will be given training on mathematical skill development and about 52,000 teachers will be given training in teaching of science utilising local resources.
He said more than 63,000 teachers will be trained on Tamil teaching and writing skill development, and about 28,000 teachers will be trained on English teaching skill development.
In addition, about two lakh teachers will be trained to learn simple classroom activities, another one lakh teachers will be given coaching on developing drawing and handwriting skills, the official said.
