TN farmer honoured with Centre’s Progressive Farmer Award

A farmer from a remote village in Dindigul district has been awarded the ICFA Progressive Farmer Award-2019 for his services to the farming community over the past two decades.

PRM Ravichandran, a native of Thandigudi village, received the award in the category, ‘Farm Extension’ during the second All India Progressive Farmers Convention, 2019, which was jointly organised by the Indian Council of Food and Agriculture (ICFA), New Delhi, and the All India Farmers Alliance at Constitution Club, New Delhi, a statement from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University said on Monday.


Of the 300 farmers who participated from across the country, 12 received awards in various categories for their efforts in promoting agriculture.


Ravichandran had served the students’ community by sharing his knowledge on farming through various activities in the last 15 years. He also took efforts to conduct a ‘farm school’ in his field for horticulture experts to study various aspects of vegetable cultivation through ATMA scheme.


Ravichandran served the farming community in his native village, too. He also started a Small Producer Organisation (SPO) with 100 farmers here for the development of farmers.


It may be noted that Ravichandran is also the recipient of the National Award Harit Kranti Award 2017.
