The van, driven by Muthupandi from Chennai, was heading to Gudalur with a cop in it for the scheduled campaign of Deputy Chief Minister when the incident happened around 10 am.
While nearing Naduvattam Town Panchayat office, the driver made a sharp turn on a blind curve causing the vehicle to fall on its side. The public immediately rescued the driver and a cop trapped inside the vehicle. Luckily they both escaped without any injuries.
Following this, Panneerselvam could not use the van to campaign in Gudalur. He instead used another vehicle to address the public, while campaigning for the AIADMK candidate M Thiyagarajan.
While speaking at the meet, the Deputy Chief Minister blamed the DMK-Congress combine for the Sri Lankan genocide. “About 1.5 lakh Tamils were killed by the Sri Lankan army in the last phase of the war. The war could have ended, if the Indian government had insisted Sri Lanka to stop, however, the late DMK chief M Karunanidhi merely staged a drama with no concern for the lives of Tamils,” he said.
Panneerselvam also blamed the members of the then Central team, including TR Balu and Kanimozhi and said when they visited Sri Lanka they received gifts from the then President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Meanwhile, a video of the AIADMK cadre distributing vessels to the public, who had gathered for the Deputy Chief Minister’s campaign in Gudalur went viral on social media.
