Responding to Rajinikanth’s appreciation of inclusion of river interlinking project in the BJP manifesto, Alagiri said, “Interlinking of rivers is a good scheme. No national party will have a difference of opinion on implementing the project. However, we should consider if it is feasible.”

“Narendra Modi, who had ruled for four and a half years knows that it is not feasible. Rivers running within a state can be linked. But inter-state rivers require the consent of the states concerned. This is a federal set up. State governments’ consent is very important. Question is how many states will agree to interlinking of the rivers,” the TNCC chief asked.

They should first consider if BJP ruled states would get the approval of the people and agree to inter link inter-state rivers, he added.

“The BJP has included it in the manifesto the same way it had promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in each account in 2014. They did not make the promise after scientific study,” Alagiri alleged, remarking that even people like Rajinikanth have been deceived by the promise and hence it would not be difficult for ordinary people to fall for it.

“It is a false promise made by the ruling party,” Alagiri said, distancing from the actor’s statement by describing it as his opinion.
